A beautiful, rare pair of original Victorian Staffordshire Black Jackfield cockerels in stunning original unspoilt condition.
circa 1890 : Lady Cavendish was a long time friend to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II since childhood.
She was also Lady in waiting to Princess Margaret, and long time partner of 33 years to Poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman.
Can you imagine Lady Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire and Sir John Betjeman sitting at their breakfast table with the cockerels spectating, and eavesdropping their conversations from the mantle piece. Lady Cavendish loved her hens and cockerels, and wrote books about them. In spite of Chatsworth house having some of the greatest treasures in the country I would imagine that this pair of cockerels were one of the multi-millionairess favourite possessions
